\\WHO CAN ENTER?
All countries that make up the African continent can enter. Songwriters from different African countries can enter for any other African country, however the performer must be a citizen or permanent resident in the participating country, but not need to live in the country at the time of the competition. The compositions must be owned by the entrant. [detailed information available on the 2019 rules]
\\CAN SONGS BE OLD RELEASES?
All songs entered must not have been commercially released or published.
\\WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE SONGS?
The maximum duration of each song is 4.5 [four and a half] minutes.
\\HOW MANY SONGS CAN BE ENTERED PER ARTIST?
A songwriter can enter up to 3 [three] songs.
\\DO SONGS NEED TO BE PERFORMED IN ENGLISH?
The entrant is free to decide the language in which the artist(s) will sing.
\\IS THERE AN ENTRY FEE?
There is no entry fee for contest, however if artists are required to travel to the finals the travel costs may be for the entrant's own account, the winner of the AfriMusic Song Contest will need to cover her/his own cost to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg South Africa should he/she be performing at the EuroVision Song Contest.
\\HOW DOES THE JUDGING / VOTING WORK?
Any song that does not comply with the set general rules will be disqualified during the vetting process. Approved songs will be published on AfriMusic's digital platforms for the public to vote. Public citizens from any African country are invited to vote for their favourite song by means of SMS, which shall be implemented in all the participating countries. In addition, there shall be a jury appointed by the AfriMusic Song Contest to vote in the national selections and in the finals. The ranks of the public votes and jury votes will be combined and audited by an independent auditing firm.
\\HOW TO ENTER
Official Entries [submissions of songs] open on 7 October 2019 and will close 1 February 2020. The entry form will be available on the this site from 7 October 2019. All entry requirements need to be emailed to on or before the deadline date [entry requirements available on the 2019 rules]. The winner will be announced on the 27th April 2020.
\\WHAT IS THE PRIZE
A statuette will be awarded to the winner of the AfriMusic Song Contest.
The winner of the AfriMusic Song Contest may be selected by the Eurovision Song Contest organisers to perform at a Eurovision Song Contest Event.Trip to the Eurovision Song Contest will be confirmed.
\\IS THERE GOING TO BE A SHOW FOR THE FINALS?
The AfriMusic Song Contest will be running on digital platforms. All entered songs will be published as videos on the AfriMusic Song Contest YouTube channel and links to videos will be available on the website and all social media pages. It is at the AfriMusic Song Contest's discretion as too when the contest will be produced as a live show. Further information will be shared in due course.
